Sintesi della storia dei rapporti tra la Santa Sede e il Comitato Internazionale della Croce Rossa, nel periodo che comprende l’inizio del Comitato Internazionale a Ginevra fino agli anni Trenta, prima dell’auge dei totalitarismi. Si presenta l’evoluzione della politica vaticana nei confronti del Comitato ginevrino, che partì con una certa cautela mista a sospetto (per l’origine protestante dell’istituzione) fino a giungere, durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, a un’intensa collaborazione sul terreno della carità. Negli ultimi anni considerati nell’articolo, i rapporti tra le due istituzioni si affievolirono.

A summary of the history of relations between the Holy See and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in the period comprising the start of the International Committee in Geneva until the thirties and the rise of totalitarianism. It presents the evolution in the Vatican’s policy towards the Geneva Committee, which started cautiously and with some suspicion (owing to the Protestant origin of the institution) until, during the First World War, it reached a level of close collaboration on the ground in charitable activity. The relationship between the two institutions, which declined in the latter years, is also treated in the article.
