Assumption of Mary, intermediate state, separated soul, time in the afterlifeAbstract
The Catholic Church interprets the dogma of the Assumption within the framework of a two-stage eschatology, which posits the existence of an “intermediate state” before the final resurrection and the parousia. Some theologians have recently criticized the doctrine of the intermediate state. This article explores some of these criticisms and pays special attention to the concept of the time after death and the significance of the “intermediate state”. From these perspectives, the suitability of Mary’s glorification preceding in time the final resurrection of humanity is shown.
