In contrast to the reductionisms of the first half of the 20th century, humanist psychology has seen the spiritual dimension as an intrinsic component of human beings, and necessary to achieve maturity. Most, but not all, later studies have found a positive correlation between religion and mental health. This article aims to provide a brief overview of some of the protective and risk factors that religion supposes, a knowledge we believe is useful to educators.
