La sinodalità della Chiesa. Sensi e contorni di una espressione

Abstract

This Paper tries to offer contours and limits to the “synodality of the Church”, with the intention of overcoming a certain imprecision linked to the novelty and the very varied use of the expression, advancing theological reflection on the subject and stimulating a greater involvement of everyone. The methodology employed takes on three challenges. The challenge of meaning starts from the consideration of the variety of senses, covering different fields and distinctions that help
to clarify the content of the expression. The challenge of combining the broad participation of Christians with the effectiveness of decisions, which is resolved in an adequate understanding of the sensus fidei and pastoral conversion. Finally, the challenge of harmonizing the different purposes of the synods, in which the role of the bishops and the harmonization of “listening” and “discernment” are considered decisive.
