Abstract
The article presents the Vocation and Mission of St. Joseph, Mary’s spouse in the ”Gospels of Infancy” (cfr. Mt 1-2; Lk 1-2). The study is divided into five points: 1. The theological intent of genealogies (Mt 1: 1-17; Lk 3: 23-38); 2. The vocational value of the announcement to St. Joseph (Mt 1: 18-25); 3. The exercise of family responsibility (Mt 2: 13-23); 4. Obedience to the law; 5. Ordinary life and witness in Nazareth. Three main reasons qualify the Vocation and Mission of St. Joseph: a) The legal Paternity of Jesus in the Davidic descent; b) The virginal Nuptiality of marriage with Mary; c) The binomial justice-obedience according to the Divine saving plan.
